1 Steps to becoming a saint

2 There is a specific process that must be followed for a person to become a saint.

3 Saints are people who have lived their life on Earth obedient to God’s will. They are recognized by the Church for having a close relationship with God. They did not live perfect lives, but they were determined to work towards a holy life at all times. We are called to be saints here on Earth and to live holy lives. All saints are great role models for us to live a life of holiness.

4 Servant of God A potential saint’s cause is started by a priest and is presented to the bishop of the Diocese where the person lived. Once the potential saint has been accepted for consideration to sainthood, they are called a Servant of God. Father Vincent Capodanno – Vietnam War Hero Dorothy Day – Social Justice Advocate

5 Venerable The Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints then determines if the Servant of God has lived a heroic life. Not a hero, but lived a life of holiness. Venerable Catherine McAuley – She took care of the sick and poor in Dublin and brought them into her home.

6 Blessed When 1 miracle has been established, the Venerable person’s cause is presented to the Pope. The Pope then decides if they will become Blessed. Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos – ministered in America to immigrants and children.

7 Saint Damien of Molokai
A second miracle is presented to the Pope and if he determines that the evidence is clear and a miracle occurred, then canonization takes place. Saint Damien of Molokai Saint Marianne Cope
