Tube Insertion Estimated Time for Completion: 8 minutes Experience Level: Higher MSC.Marc 2005r2 MSC.Patran 2005r2

2 Topics Covered Creating Deformable contacts Creating Rigid contacts with translational and rotational motion control Creating Orthotropic material Creating 2D Shell element with Homogeneous and Laminate options Applying Structural Static Analysis Applying Large Displacement/ Large Strain Analysis Modifying Contact Table

3 Problem Description This example models two cylinders using thin shells. Initially, one cylinder lies inside another cylinder. Then, the inner tube starts to bend while the other is outer tube is fixed. The effect of buckling is demonstrated as a result of bending. The outer tube is made of an orthotropic material; the inner, slotted-off tube is made of a composite laminate experiencing local buckling.

4 Summary of Model Tube_outside Rigid surface (fixed) Contact (glued) Rigid surface (rotation+translation) Tube_inside Contact (glued)
