Utah and Arizona Mormon Settlement

A Persecuted Group Founded in New York – persecuted by their neighbors. Many offended by Mormons’ teachings (polygamy) Brigham Young moved community to Utah

West to Utah Because of Zebulon Pike & Fremont settling in remote areas… Mormons know of land and move out Mormon pioneers built shelters and plant crops for those who followed First settlement, Salt Lake City. To survive in dry country, learn new ways to farm: built dams, canals, and irrigation ditches (this made the desert bloom).

The Mormon’s Legacy First Americans to settle Great Basin Pioneered farming methods Helped settlers move west From Salt Lake City, Mormon church grown worldwide.
