“WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS?

1) Is sunlight matter or energy? How do plants use sunlight in photosynthesis? 2) Plants are made mostly of carbohydrates. What atoms are carbohydrates made of? SUNLIGHT IS ENERGY AND PLANTS USE IT TO MAKE FOOD (STARCH) IN THEIR LEAVES CARBS ARE MADE OF C, H, AND O ATOMS

3) In order for plants to make their own food, they need three ingredients—what are they? PLANTS NEED SUNLIGHT, CARBON DIOXIDE, AND WATER

4) How does CO 2 get into a plant? How does water get into a plant? 5) What part of the plant performs photosynthesis? CO 2 GETS INTO A PLANT THROUGH OPENINGS IN THE LEAF AND WATER GETS IN THROUGH THE ROOTS THE cells of the LEAVES ARE WHERE PHOTOSYNTHESIS TAKES PLACE

6) Other than making glucose, what else is produced by photosynthesis? O 2 IS ALSO PRODUCED BY PHOTOSYNTHESIS—IT IS LEFT OVER
