Senior English Project Guide a Personal Journey

Goal: Your Senior Project will provide concrete evidence of your hard work and achievements as a high school senior and should represent your best work. In producing and presenting your project you are expected to

Attendance & Participation This class provides an opportunity for you to take your first steps toward your post secondary area of study. It is important, therefore, to commit yourself fully to the work of the course. Your best efforts are expected. It is your responsibility to make sure specific expectations are clear; ask if you are uncertain.

Most importantly Senior projects require the selection of a topic that interest you.

A Senior Project is about doing and learning something that you want to do and learn about! This is your chance to choose a topic that will be interesting and worthwhile and will extend your knowledge. However, making the decision may not be easy. Choose carefully, consult with your career advisor and remember to keep your project manageable. Here are some guidelines that might help you. Topics must be related to your career and technical area of interest. The topic must be enough to provide adequate resources and to yield a written report of the desired length and depth of study. Topics must be narrow enough to be covered within the time frame of the project. Topics must lend themselves to a manageable and affordable product/process project

The Senior Project provides you a chance to show that you are a responsible and industrious learner. Accept the challenge with dignity and grace. This is your time to shine!

Write a letter of intent Write a 2-3 page paper on some aspect of that topic that has a career connection. Physical undertaking that you engage in which requires at least 10 hours of your time outside of school. Gather materials and create a portfolio of your high school life and present your project. Ideally, this would be presented to a panel of judges who are members of the community into which you are about to enter. The requirements

Letter of intent, which is a letter using correct business format that is essentially your proposal (what you want see happen). Your letter must be well written with no errors; it must be thoughtful and interesting to read. Students should not assume that just anything will be approved with modifications. The letter should be four paragraphs and should use a justified left margin. Note the form sample on the next page. You may not copy the sample; that is called plagiarism and it cannot be tolerated in Senior Projects. Each paragraph has a job to do Paragraph 1: Introduction/ Autobiographical Paragraph 2: description of research paper Paragraph 3: description of physical project Paragraph 4: pledge not to plagiarize Due October 30th~ Typed Written proposal (plan of work) submitted to be on record.

Student sample Heading: where the letter comes from (your address) Inside address: To whom the letter is being sent (Addressee) Salutation: Greeting Closing: yes, you need to sign and type your name Body : Each paragraph has a function, and you need to make sure it makes sense Paragraph 1: Introduction/ Autobiographical Paragraph 2: description of project/research paper Paragraph 3: description of presentation (PPT, video, portfolio, demonstration, etc.) Paragraph 4: pledge not to plagiarize

It is a chance for our graduating seniors to share their talent and hard work. A way of summing up their work as high school seniors. Each year attendees are quite impressed by the presentations, the variety of subjects and approaches, the depth of insight, and the strength and beauty of the writing. Please take this opportunity by preparing well and being sure to fit your presentation to the time-frame given. The Senior presentations will take place the week of May 11th, 2015
