Apollo Summary The Apollo program was designed to land humans on the Moon and bring them safely back to Earth. Six of the missions -- Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and achieved this goal. Lunar surface experiments included soil mechanics, meteoroids, seismic, heat flow, lunar ranging, magnetic fields and solar wind experiments. Apollo 17 included the first professional scientist (Geologist), Harrison Schmitt

Skylab America's first experimental space station. Designed for long duration mission Program objectives were twofold: To prove that humans could live and work in space for extended periods, and to expand our knowledge of solar astronomy Three three-man crews occupied the Skylab workshop for a total of 171 days, 13 hours. It was the site of nearly 300 scientific and technical experiments

Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Apollo-Soyuz was the first international manned spaceflight. It was designed to: test the compatibility of rendezvous and docking systems for American and Soviet spacecraft to open the way for international space rescue as well as future joint manned flights

Apollo Budget After the last lunar landing, total funding for the Apollo program was about $19,408,134,000. The budget allocation was 34 percent of the NASA budget.
