Fort Bend ISD Acceptable Use Policy Student Training

The Goal in Providing Computer Resources zComputer resources are to be used to support District educational goals. zThese resources are a privilege, not a right.

Why Do We Need An Acceptable Use Policy? zThere is a possibility of accessing inappropriate material. zThe district has taken precautions to restrict access to this information by the use of filtering software. You may NOT bypass it! zProper use of the network ensures that the network runs efficiently.

Rules of Acceptable Use: General Use

zOnly students who have a signed AUP signature page on file and who are under direct supervision of district instructional employees may use a district computer. zFiles stored on district computers are not private and can be viewed by district personnel.

General Use zStudents may only use their assigned network login (H drive) yDo not share your login information! zStudents may not change any computer settings and/or configurations zStudents may not install any software

General Use zStudents are not allowed to make any changes to the computer hardware. zStudents are not allowed to open a file or save a file on a diskette, CD or travel drive without teacher permission.

Internet Use: zStudents may not access the Internet UNLESS the teacher has given an assignment requiring the use of the Internet.

Internet/Use: zDistrict instructional personnel and administrators can view all sites that are visited on the Internet. zYou leave a trail as you search on the Internet. This trail can be followed. z using district computers are not private and will be monitored by district staff.

Internet Use: zStudents must notify their teacher immediately if they encounter any inappropriate material on the Internet. zStudents are prohibited from revealing their names, personal addresses, and/or phone numbers except to request college information. zStudents are prohibited from revealing names, personal addresses, or phone numbers of others.

Rules of Acceptable Use: Computer Ethics

zStudents are expected to observe copyright law in their use of the Internet. zStudents are prohibited from using District computers for commercial activities and/or political lobbying.

Computer Ethics zStudents are prohibited from disrupting network operations by: yuploading/creating viruses ydownloading files without permission yintruding on the computer files of others ycommitting any type of electronic or physical vandalism/theft (you may be held financially responsible)

Rules of Acceptable Use: Lab Policies

zStudents are not permitted to bring food/drink into any computer lab zStudents should not print directly from the Internet

Lab Policies zNo outside software/external storage may be used in a classroom setting (games, etc.) zStudents should not play personal CDs on district computers unless it is the objective of the lesson.

Lab Policies zStudents should report any computer problems (software errors, missing or damaged equipment) or changes in the configuration to the teacher immediately zStudents should use only the computer assigned to them unless directed otherwise by the teacher

Lab Policies zJUST SAY NO! zNo Games zNo Chatting / Instant Messaging zNo zNo Diskettes / CD’s / Travel drives zNo Food or Drinks

Rules of Acceptable Use: Consequences

zAny student accessing the Internet without permission, including accessing accounts from a district computer, will receive the following disciplinary measures:

Consequences zFirst Offense – Teacher contacts parent followed by a discipline referral. zSecond Offense – Referral to assistant principal for Saturday detention. zThird Offense – One day suspension and one week removal from the computer.

Consequences zAny student downloading programs, using any method to bypass the district firewall, or committing any other major infraction will receive the following disciplinary action:

Consequences zFirst Offense: Minimum of one day suspension and loss of computer privileges for two weeks. zSecond Offense: Three day suspension and loss of computer privileges for the remainder of the year.
