2013 West Suffolk Hospital is running 115 clinical trials open to new subjects or in follow-up. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT UNIT WEST SUFFOLK HOSPITAL

Clinical Trials Phases I & II Phase I (safety and tolerability) trials which involve first human exposure to a therapeutic agent. Phase II clinical trials primarily are intended to demonstrate whether or not the new drug will provide any benefit and whether that benefit is sufficiently better than standard treatments to warrant further development. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT UNIT WEST SUFFOLK HOSPITAL

Clinical Trials Phases III & IV Phase III trial are randomized controlled, on large patient groups. They are aimed at being the definitive assessment of how effective the drug is, in comparison with current standard treatment. This is the kind of study that patients from this hospital are most often recruited into. Phase IV trials involve the safety surveillance and ongoing technical support of a drug after it receives permission to be sold. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT UNIT WEST SUFFOLK HOSPITAL

Research Grants Research for Innovation Speculation and Creativity (RISC) RISC is a response-mode funding programme established to provide research of direct benefit to users of the NHS in England. The RISC programme is for potentially paradigm-changing projects in Health Services and Public Health Research. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT UNIT WEST SUFFOLK HOSPITAL

HTA Clinical Trials The HTA programme commissions research in three different ways: 1. By advertising standard calls for research proposals that address specific topics 2. By advertising special calls for research proposals that address themed areas 3. By funding HTA clinical trials and evaluation studies that are proposed directly by researchers.
