Castles & Catapult

Shadouf: Just a long pole balanced in the middle, with a weight on one end and a rope attached to the other end with a bucket tied to it. Catapult History

Ballistas were built around 800 BC by the Greeks and fired off a sharp missile. Ballistas were good against enemies but not against castles.

Onagers were cranked down to launch a rock or heavy object.

Trebuchets were the ultimate castle- destroying machine! Heavy counterweight was placed in a swinging box, which, when released, would sling the weapon (rock, dead and diseased bodies, etc.) into or over the castle wall. This was the first weapon that could take a castle down!

What weapon replaced catapults?
