They could easily kill from 100+ yards

Legitimately used for fighting until guns were invented.
Used very widely including by romans
Also are throwing spears
Even had winged spears for preventing deep penetration within enemies.

Designed from the ancient sling
First traction trebuchet was created in the fourth century B.C.
Traction trebuchet, Hand trebuchet, and the counterweight trebuchet
The counterweight trebuchet was more powerful than the traction trebuchet
