Welcome and Announcement 1. Welcome all brothers and sisters and friends to our Sunday Worship Services. Please stay for lunch after the English Sunday School and the Chinese Worship Service. Today's lunch serving and after lunch clean up will be provided by brothers and sisters from the Cantonese Group A.

2. Weekly Wednesday evening Prayer Meeting will be held: (a) Mandarin Group at ? home, (b) English Group at the Church; (c) Eastside Cantonese Group at CC and Betty Chow's home; (d) Westside Cantonese Group at Johnny and Shirley Lynn's home; (e) RCCC-W Group at Hongqing and Belinda Li's home.

3. The first session of the Marriage seminar Chinese series entitled "The Two Shall Become One Flesh - Union with Christ and Unity in Marriage" will be held this Friday (August 15) at 7:30 p.m. at RCCC-W.

4. Picnic for the RCCC English Congregation will be held on Saturday August 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Penfield. If you plan to attend the picnic or have questions, please contact Frank Suen and RSVP by Wednesday August 20.

5. RCCC-W is working with the Mandarin group for an outreach picnic on Saturday August 30 at Ellison Park. We want to extend our welcome to new friends and students as they arrive in Rochester. Please join us for a time of fellowship and sharing Jesus with them. Scripture Reading John 15: "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.

7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. 9 "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

11 "These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

1. I. Why should we remain in the Lord? (1) Our prayer will be answered

John 15:7 7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

(2) God will be glorified

John 15:8 8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.

(3) Our joy may be complete

John 15:11 11 "These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

2. II. How can we remain in the Lord? (1) Do not separate from the Lord

John 15:4-5 4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

(2) Subject to God’s discipline

John 15:1-2 1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

Hebrews 12:8-9 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?

(3) Obey the Lord’s commands

John 15:10 10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
