Presentation transcript:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Reduce Litter and Pollution Mrs. Dudley Elm Street Elementary S3L2. a. Explain the effects of pollution (such as littering) to the habitats of plants and animals. b. Identify ways to protect the environment. • Conservation of resources • Recycling of materials

LITTER/POLLUTION: WHAT IS IT? Litter is: Trash scattered about Messiness; disorder Pollution is: Harmful chemicals Waste materials Things that make air, water, and land unclean, impure or dirty.

Pollution: What causes it? Factories in the United States release over 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into the land, air and water every year. 15 million acres of land are lost every year because of this and it leads to respiratory complications as well as other health problems while making our rivers and lakes too polluted for us to swim in or drink from.

Pollution: What causes it? Mining Littering Deforestation Wildfires Large ships Pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers Human sewage Oil spills

Who do YOU think is affected by pollution and litter….? EVERYONE and EVERYTHING!

What can YOU do to reduce litter and pollution…? REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE Pick up trash you see Do not Litter

Project Pair up with a friend and use a piece of large construction paper to make an advertisement you might use to make your friends aware of the things you learned today about pollution and litter. Please include illustrations and 5 pieces of information you learned today.
