Printing & Graphic Services The Environmental Sustainability Movement is here to stay  We as consumers are waking up to the realities of our ways  Our carbon footprint is having profound negative effects  Corporate environmental responsibility is not optional  Every viable business will be expected to have an organizational sustainability policy including a comprehensive energy management policy covering new building design, old building upgrades, more efficient lighting, energy efficient equipment (copiers & printers), resource conservation (print), carpooling/public transportation incentives and comprehensive recycling programs Government Printing Office City of Boise EnvironmentalResourceCenter/SustainableandLivableBoise Boise State University  Include an environmental policy statement in your mission

Printing & Graphic Services Green initiatives – If you are not doing these things and more, get started!  Conduct an internal environmental audit on your shop  Use recycled paper as house sheets – coated & uncoated  Use chemical-free CTP plate systems  Use soy or vegetable-based inks instead of oil-based  Research and use eco-friendly press supplies  Recycle paper cutter off cuts – we’re talking tons!  Recycle toner cartridges and printer replacement parts  Have a personal recycling box for every employee  Become chain-of-custody certified (FSC, SFI, SGP)  Offer soft proofing as the standard proofing process  Re-use paper boxes for shipping print orders  Promote more efficient VDP as cost saving alternative  Promote “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle” program  Offer new electronic media services – web, , Purls

Printing & Graphic Services Go Green – More things you can do  Save bubble wrap and shrink package waste for re-packing  Turn off lights, computers, printers and copiers  Use electric golf cart for pickup and delivery  Print same colors all day to reduce wash-ups  Recycle spent solvents  Use online ordering and automated workflows  Other things you are doing………. Metrics are the key – The environmental equivalent to ROI  Carbon calculators  Waste removed from our processes and waste streams  Energy saved  Efficiency and productivity gained  Dollars saved MEASUREMENT – MEASUREMENT - MEASUREMENT
