What is it? Overview Goals Where it takes place Persons involved

OVERVIEW Traditional Co-op Curriculum expectations (with an electronic twist) - One semester/1 High School Credit - Pre-placement phase (résumé; cover-letter; job interview; workplace safety & etiquette instruction; etc.) - Occasional meetings for in-class learning through group discussions and cooperative activities

OVERVIEW [Continued] One-on-one tutelage from leading Canadian scientist in chosen field of current research - Deepen knowledge in chosen field of knowledge - Gain professional experience within the field of scientific research

OVERVIEW [Continued] Development of scientific article writing & reviewing skills - In-class discussions of scientific articles - In-class writing and reviewing of scientific articles - Assignments: Article report/Grant Proposal/video Abstract/etc.

GOALS Familiarity with format for both scientific articles and scientific reviews: - Language level - Format (introduction; abstract; materials; procedure; results; discussion; conclusion; tables; etc.)

PERSONS INVOLVED [Continued] Liaison/Program Coordinator (Lauren Sykes): - mediates initial communication between Students and Mentor - monitors SharePoint site interactions together with local school Co-op teacher - escalation contact person

PERSONS INVOLVED [Continued] Mentors: - provides access to their current research information and procedures - shares information about the basic functions within his/her laboratory - provides students with research materials (primary articles and reviews) - assigns laboratory related tasks to students
