 Unwin’s Definition: “Site planning is the arrangement of building and the development of the site to the best advantage”.  Lynch’s Definition: “Site planning is the act of arranging the external physical environment to support human behavior”. Definition of Site Planning:

 It lies along the boundaries of architecture, civil engineering, landscape architecture and city planning, and it is practiced by member of all these professions. Civil Engineering Architecture Landscape Architecture City Planning Site Planning

 The site is not simply a collection of buildings and streets but a system of system of structures, surface, spaces living things, climates.  Site planners in a given physical and social setting normally deal with a particular contiguous area under the control of one agency. They may be concerned with a group of houses, a single building and its ground, or with something as extensive as a new town or university campus.

 Site plans locate objects and activities in space and activities in space and time. These plans may concern: a single buildings & its ground, a small cluster of houses or a small community built in signal operation.  Site planning is distinct from city planning which proposes environment policies for large areas and many clients.  Site planning may have attained a new importance, but it is an old practice, and even an act if we remember the beautiful towns and squares, that have peaches our times and are set as good examples, for us to get started off in new designs.

The Art of Site Planning: Site planning is the art and science of arranging structures on the land and shaping the space between arranging the uses of portions of land site planners designate these uses in detail by:  Selecting and analyzing Sites.  Forming land use plans.  Organizing vehicular and pedestrian circulation.  Developing visual form and materials concepts.  Readjusting the existing land forms by design grading.  Providing proper drainage.  Developing the construction details necessary to carry out their projects.

The Art of Site Planning: The planners however do arrange for the accommodation of the activities clients have specified. The must relate these components to each other:  the sites,  the structures and  activities on adjacent sites for whether sites are large or small, they must be viewed as part of the total environment.

The Art of Site Planning: Site panning is more than practical art. Its aim is moral and esthetic to make places which  enhance everyday life  liberate their inhabitants  give them a sense of the world they live in. Professional skill that easy familiarity with behavior setting:  grading  planting  drainage  circulation  microclimates  survey is only a path to that result.

The Art of Site Planning: Site planning is usually a accomplished in a regular sequences, There are 8 stages in the typical site planning cycle in which the designer is properly involved. Beyond this cycle of events other actions:  the consideration and approval of plans.  The securing of financing
