Presentation transcript:

A study conducted to reexamine the changing P-K classroom needs led to the following conclusion: There are three major areas of influence when classroom furniture decisions are made:  Safety  Functionality  Affordability

STUDY SUGESTED ROOM LAYOUT Place messy activities near each other and if possible, near a a sink (i.e., Sand-n-Water tables near art easels) Keep noisy, interactive areas adjacent to each other (i.e., blocks near dramatic play) Reading nooks should be placed near windows for natural light Music and movement centers should be located near an outlet (i.e., CD player) Lockers should be placed near the door to keep the weather (mud) from being tracked through the entire room Storage units can do double-duty as dividers to separate different areas of the room The teachers’ desk should be near the door to monitor who comes and goes for security
