Reliability Analyses of a Passive Emergency Core Cooling System Aleksandra Luks

Place of internship: KTH (The Royal Institute of Technology) AlbaNova, Department of Nuclear Technology – Sweden Term of internship:

Topics of internship: Reliability Analyses of a Passive Emergency Core Cooling System There are no publications, but they will be written in the next few months. 3

The research perform the reliability analysis of passive ECCS using a three-dimensional thermal- hydraulic model of the reactor core. The 3D model will be implemented into a CFD code (OpenFOAM) using a porous media approach with distributed heat sources. A new model will be used to calculate the fuel and clad temperature in the core. 4

Main steps in the internship plan: literature study on new reactor designs with passive ECCS, reliability study of passive systems, methods of analysis of passive systems, methods of uncertainty analyses for passive systems performance of the analytical model development of porous media CFD model of a reactor core, including heat sources due to decay heat development of a model to calculate the local effective clad temperature 5
