Tilstock Primary and Nursery School - Maths Coordinator

Basic number facts should be practised regularly at home. Counting on/back in steps of 1. Counting on/back in steps of 10. Counting on/back in steps of 100. All X tables up to x12. What is each digit worth in any number. These are the basic principles of all counting and until they are mastered children will struggle to make GOOD progress with their mathematics.

Tilstock Primary and Nursery School - Maths Coordinator The number line works in the most simple progression way imaginable. It starts as a track. It develops into a line. It morphs into an empty line.

Tilstock Primary and Nursery School - Maths Coordinator Finally it becomes blank When you add/multiply numbers get bigger so you go Left to Right. When you subtract/divide numbers get smaller so you go Right to Left.

Tilstock Primary and Nursery School - Maths Coordinator Base 10 helps children visualise numbers.
