The Internet! Over 500 million people are registered with Facebook. 50% use it almost every day. Many of them are minors. Keeping yourself safe in this dynamic environment is vitally important.

ON FACEBOOK – DON’T DON’T accept friend requests from people that you don’t know. DON’T keep anyone on your friends list that has started to be unkind to you. DON’T add or accept people for the sake of having a lot of friends on social networking sites - it’s not a competition!

DO clear out your friends list when you get home. DO block people who you don’t know but they keep asking to be your friend. DO make sure the ‘friend’ on your Facebook is really that person. DO make sure that you’d be happy for each and every friend on your list to read your status’ and know the information on your profile. ON FACEBOOK – DO

PRIVACY Your Facebook info can be seen by Friends of Friends – people you may not know. However, there are ways to prevent this...

WHAT CAN YOU DO? 1.Change your privacy settings: Change your privacy settings to friends only. 2.Block people: Block anyone that could cause a problem. That way, if that person types your name in in the search bar, you won’t even come up as a result. 3.Change your name on Facebook: By changing your name on Facebook to a nickname of some kind, then only your friends will be able to find you as only close friends will know that nickname.
