Follow your leaders’ instructions for this fun ‘get-to-know-you’ activity. Each cell is filled with a descriptor like someone who plays an instrument or youngest child in the family. You must find a person who matches the description for each square and have them sign your bingo cards. Human Bingo

Mission and History of People to People Ambassador Programs

Our mission is now your mission too... We bridge cultural and political borders through education and exchange, making the world a better place for future generations. You are now a part of People to People history… The People to People movement dates back more than half a century to its founding by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Eisenhower was acting on his firm belief that direct interaction between ordinary citizens around the world can promote cultural understanding and world peace. That proud legacy of hope lives on in People to People Ambassador Programs on seven continents. Mission and History Video: P2P History

What is an Ambassador?

What is an Ambassador? A is for …. In this activity, you will be working in groups of 3-4 to develop a poster representing what an Ambassador is to you and your group members You will write the word “AMBASSADOR” down the left hand side of the paper provided You will then come up with a word/phrase for each letter in the word The word/phrase must apply to what it means to be an Ambassador

People to People represents the culmination of President Eisenhower’s lifelong crusade for world peace. Eisenhower felt very strongly that everyday citizens of the world wanted peace and could attain it much more effectively without government interference. Eisenhower felt that face-to-face contact through various cultural activities, sports, and the arts would form enduring friendships among people of all cultures. As citizens interact with their peers from other nations by coming into each other’s homes, attending each others’ schools, and competing against one another in friendly contests of athletic skill, they will learn to appreciate each other and eradicate many misconceptions. As Ambassadors, you are part of that vision. What is an Ambassador? Videos: “Why We Conduct Orientation Meetings” & “Our Safety Network”

Background of People to People

Before Dwight D. Eisenhower became president of the United States of America, he was the Allied Commander in Europe during World War II. The memories of warfare would haunt Eisenhower for the rest of his life. During his presidency, the United States and the Soviet Union were waging a Cold War and a nuclear arms race which led to fear, suspicion, and misunderstanding between the two nations. “I believe the people want peace, indeed, I believe that they want peace so badly that the governments will just have to step aside and let them have it.” Dwight D. Eisenhower in a British Radio Address Learn more about the background of this organization which strives to perpetuate Eisenhower’s mission in an activity with your delegation. Civics 101

As Student Ambassadors, you have a civic responsibility to familiarize yourself with the government officials who serve your country, state and local community. Completing the Civics 101 worksheet will help you represent the United States intelligently through your knowledge of our government. Follow your leaders’ instructions for completing this assignment. Civics 101

Teambuilding

An important part of a successful international experience is having all delegates work together seamlessly as a team. Your leaders will provide you with this and many other opportunities to work with your fellow delegates to form a cohesive team before travel. Teambuilding PARENT MEETING

Being a Student Ambassador is a privilege. And, much like college, there is a lot of preparation needed before you go. For many delegates this includes finding ways to pay their tuition. Share and brainstorm ideas for raising money to pay program tuition. Pay Your Way VIDEO: “Pay Your Way #1
