Mobility within Aalto University 2012 Co-ordinator Heidi Pellinen

Internal mobility in Aalto University Aalto University: School of Engineering, School of Chemical Technology, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Science, School of Art, Design and Architecture and School of Economics Mainly it is possible to take courses only from our own field of study Possibilities to take courses at another field of study (School) if certain requirements are met Two kinds of mobility Aalto courses (open to all students of Aalto University) Internal mobility studies at another Aalto School

Aalto courses Aalto course is a course organized by one or more Aalto Schools that is open to all students Cross-diciplinary courses, combine different fields of studies, innovative and new courses and teaching methods Information about the courses can be found from Into: Registration –Mainly via WebOodi

Aalto courses Arts Meets Business (1 period) This course aims at building up a conversation between the students of School of Art and Design and School of Economics in the way that the students of both schools could learn from each other and profit from different type of knowledge and ways of thinking in an efective and useful way. The diferent teaching methods used in the course will give students valuable information about creative business and how to develop a successful concept of your own. The goal of this course is to help artists and other creative professionals to understand the world of business and marketing and the business professionals to understand the world of art and design better and to utilize this understanding in his/her own work. Ene Special Course in Energy for Communities- Field Work in Developing Countries (1 period) How to do effective field work? What are the connected social issues? What are the challenges when working in developing countries? How to make good surveys and questionnaires? How to utilize my field data? If these questions are relevant to you, this is your course! The applied teaching approaches are mainly lecturing and group work. Students will be given group research assignments and the results will be presented for the rest of the class.

Aalto courses E02000 Visual Marketing, Usability and Product Design Development with Eye Tracking Methodology Be on the cutting edge! Eye tracking methodology is fast emerging as the most important tool for observing human perception and attention. It is already applied to a vast array of uses ranging from medical and market research to designing airliner cabins and virtual environments, yet, education for using them is still in limited supply. This is your chance to include a cutting edge skill to your portfolio. S Astronomical View of the World Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences, and it has affected the human civilizations throughout the history. From astronomer-priests of the ancient Mesopotamia dictating foreign politics, to builders of astronomically-aligned monuments such as the Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids, to navigation and exploration of the seafaring nations (and now spacefaring!), to removal of the humankind from the focus and the centre of the universe, all the way to our modern understanding of our solar, galactic and inter-galactic neighborhood – the astronomical view of the World has been interwoven in arts and sciences, mythologies and religions, politics and societies.

Aalto courses In addition to these examples also many other interesting courses are organized e.g.: Female/male media Information Design and Visualization Observation, decision and the brain in economics/cinematics Values in Design PACK-AGE: Interdisciplinary Packaging Design Project All of the Aalto courses are presented in Into in the webpage for Aalto courses (Internal mobility and JOO studies  Aalto courses)

How does it work? – Internal mobility studies at another Aalto School Only for degree students (not possible for e.g. exchange students) Application periods are used Must be part of Personal Study Plan Applications through Enroll to network courses (Aalto University internal mobility) Internal mobility courses –Only some of the courses are offered / It is possible to apply to any course  depends on the School and the department –More information in Into:

Flexible Study Right JOO National agreement between universities that provides the opportunity to include courses from other Finnish universities into the degree Free of charge for the student Possible only for degree students Depending on the University: application period twice a year (October and April) or possible to apply anytime In order to get the study right the student needs approval both from his/her home university and the receiving university

More information Into: School of Engineering: Virpi Riissanen School of Chemical Technology: Annika Mauno School of Science: Sari Salmisuo School of Electrical Engineering: Kati Voutilainen Aalto University: Heidi Pellinen
