Anyone listening to your lectures? Anyone…Anyone?

What does it mean to Flip the Classroom? O How it began O How it is currently integrated in Higher Education O How can this impact your future courses?

How it began: past & present Founders of the Flipped Classroom Impact on student learning?

Defining-What it IS O INCREASE interaction and personalized contact time between students and teachers. O Students take responsibility for their own learning. O Blending of direct instruction with inquiry based learning. O Students who are absent due to illness or extra- curricular activities such as athletics or field-trips, don't get left behind. O Content is permanently archived for review or remediation.

Defining-What it is NOT  A synonym for online videos.  Replacing professors with videos.  An online course.  Students working without structure.  Students spending the entire class staring at a computer screen.  Students working in isolation.

“When most people hear about the flipped class all they think about are the videos. It is the interaction and the meaningful learning activities that occur during the face-to-face time that is most important.“ Aaron Sams, co-founder of the Flipped Classroom Model Aaron Sams, co-founder of the Flipped Classroom Model

“Early experimentation with this model has been extremely positive with substantial increases in student reviews of the course and gains class attendance from 30 to 80 percent, despite attendance being optional”. Stanford School of Medicine Stanford School of Medicine
