Collecting Green Miles Let’s go to Kyoto, let’s get the Protocol and bring it back to our town! An initiative that involves primary school children of four Emilia–Romagna towns in an imaginary travel-game, going to school in a sustainable way The project 4 Emilia–Romagna towns: -Reggio Emilia -Modena -Piacenza -Ferrara

Objective and actions Playing rules: children gain a “green mile” every time they go and come back from school in an eco-friendly way Actions:  every child sticks coloured stamps on a special album showing the means of transport used on the route home-school-home, in order to assess his or her personal commitment  each class prepares a poster with the indication of the “green miles” achieved to measure the collective effort Objective: educate children, starting from an early age, and their families, to sustainable mobility, that is to cover at least miles, the distance between Reggio Emilia and Kyoto and return

The story  since 2003  on the occasion “European week of Sustainable Mobility ” and the international week “Walk to School”  in cooperation with the Emilia–Romagna Region and Climate alliance Italy  format “Zoom – Kids on the move”

 All participating schools are gathered together in a final party to celebrate the results obtained Final party

 Schools who achieve better results, that is collect the higher number of green miles, are given prizes like excursions on bicycle The prizes

 4 towns  children  54 schools  Green Miles collected, equal to the world tour 6 times!  70 saved tons of CO 2 Results of 2005 edition 70 tonnellate di CO 2 Kyoto Reggio Emilia

The best way to bring the Kyoto Protocol back to our town, in our classroom and inside our family,through little daily actions based on important targets! Going to school in a sustainable way transforms an imaginary travel-game in good practices that need to be repeated every day! Collecting Green Miles
