Magnets are Used Every Day

Magnets Magnets are used every day. Sometimes we can see the magnets such as the ones we use on our fridge to hold papers.

Magnets Sometimes, we can’t see the magnets, but they are necessary for the object to work such as in a computer’s hard drive. Hard disks in a computer record data on a thin magnetic coating.

Transportation Magnets are used in some trains. The best known is the maglev. Maglev is a shortened combination of the words magnetic levitation This means the train is lifted above the rail by electro- magnetic force.

Jewelry Magnets can be used to make jewelry. Some necklaces and bracelets are made from a series of linked magnets.

Junkyards Magnets can be used to separate magnetic metals (iron, steel, and nickel) from non- magnetic metals such as aluminum cans. steel cans: magnetic aluminum can: non-magnetic

Toys

Can you see the magnet? Where is the magnet on the can opener? Here is a can opener.

Here is a compass. Can you see the magnet?

Here is a name tag. Can you see the magnet?

Here is a fridge. Can you see the magnet?

Here is a washing machine. Can you see the magnet?

Magnets are used every day… We can see the magnets. – Toys – Tools – Name tags – Can openers – Compasses We can’t see the magnets. – Credit cards – CD players – Washing machine – Fax – Computers – Fridge doors – Electric motors – MRI machine
