Frankenstein Major Plot Summary

Victor’s Creature Victor Frankenstein works for months to create his creature, he is obsessed with finding the secret to life. Finally, the creature is reanimated, but Victor sees it as an abomination. Victor abandons his creature to fend for itself.

The Creatures Revenge Victor receives a letter from his father telling him that his brother, William has been strangled to death. Victor goes back to his hometown, and on his way back he sees his mighty creature in the darkness. At this point Victor is convinced that the creature has killed his brother.

The Creature Explained One day Victor goes on a nature walk to raise his spirits (Mont Blanc), and the creature jumps a mountain in order to confront Victor. The creature explains how Victor left it alone to figure out the world on its own. The creature had to learn how to eat, speak, and survive on its own. Most importantly the creature learns society will not accept it.

An Interesting Demand The creature tells Victor it will continue to kill his loved ones unless Victor make him a wife. The creature wants a companion just like him that he can live with in secrecy. Victor agrees to make the creature a wife.

Second Thoughts Victor changes his mind about making a female creature, and he disposes of the body in a dark lake. The creature sees this, and vows further revenge on Victor.

The Creature’s Revenge Cont. The Creature’s response is to kill Victor’s best friend, Henry Clerval. Victor is extremely disturbed and saddened by the death of Henry, but when Elizabeth demands he marry her, he agrees. On their wedding night the creature tears Elizabeth’s heart from her chest.

Victor’s Revenge Victor has nothing left to live for except for revenge. His last goal in life is to end the life of his creature. Victor chases the creature all over the world, but cannot succeed in bringing down his 8 foot tall abomination.

The End is the Beginning The book ends with Victor explaining his story to Robert Walton. Walton started the book with the letters to his sister. Victor dies with hate in his heart in addition to being more savage than human. The creature confesses to Walton that he regrets the way his relationship with Victor turned out; Victor was his father. The creature says its goodbyes to Victor and fades into the darkness of the sea.

The End!
