Word of the Day Week of October 15 th

hue: a color or a shade of color Part of Speech: noun “Strawberry red” and “rose red” are the names of hues. Choose a descriptive name for each of these hues: light blue dark yellow bright orange light pink medium green A rainbow has seven colors. Which hue is your favorite? What do you own in that hue?

wince: to pull back or make a face in fear or pain Part of Speech: verb Would you wince if you… got an “A” on a test? were getting a shot? were having a birthday party? had to take bad-tasting medicine? got your tooth drilled by the dentist? Describe a situation that makes you wince.

compromise: when people give in a little to settle a disagreement Part of Speech: verb In which of these situations could people compromise? You’re invited to a beach party on the day of your family reunion. Your brother wants macaroni and cheese, but you want pizza. Your dad gets a $25 traffic ticket, but he only wants to pay $10. Half the class wants to play tag, but the others want to play ball. Mom wants to go to the mall, but Dad wants to go to the movies. Choose one of the situations listed above and tell how the people might compromise.
