What is code4lib? code4lib doesn’t actually exist – And not in that “Illuminati” way...mostly – Collection of likeminded people – A Listserv (2003) – A Yearly Gathering (2005) – A Journal (2007) – Local Chapters (various) Mid-Atlantic

How is it run? Volunteer-driven collective “Join” by joining the listserv Run in true democratic form – No hierarchical structure (no officers, etc) – Volunteering/Stepping up to lead – Direct, open voting – Discussion and agreement on the listsev Mid-Atlantic

“Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune”

Mid-Atlantic

Involvement Who: Hackers, Designers, Architects, Curators, Catalogers, Artists, Instigators Where: Everywhere What: Largely work for and with libraries, archives and museums, on technology "stuff.“ Why: Overarching community, agnostic towards any particular language or technology Mid-Atlantic

And code4lib Mid-Atlantic? The Philadelphia Area/Tri-State chapter Founded in October 2012 Meeting once a month-ish – Formal meet-up – Social meet-up – Lightly structured, then social meet-up In Philly for two months, suburbs one month Mid-Atlantic

What can we do for PACSCL? An open forum where technology “stuff” (from the practical to the fanciful) can be discussed. A place where great and glorious project plans can be shared, scrutinized and advised. A place where questions both large and small can be answered. Mid-Atlantic
