Sydney Region Sydney Region ICT news-2- Sydney Region High School Transition Project (STEMS) 2006 Information was contained in InPrincipal: Friday 21 st July and was sent to all Primary schools on 24/7/06 During Week 4 of this term, almost 200 Year 6 teachers, school admin managers and school counselors attended one of three presentations to assist schools with the STEMS process for 2006 The presentation notes can be downloaded from here: Many K-6 schools have already commenced the data collection and STEMS installation process. The key date for completion by all K-6 schools is the end of Week 3, Term 4. Presentations for high schools will be conducted in week 10, term to fill them in on exactly what STEMS can offer them and to avoid double-processing of transition information.

Sydney Region Sydney Region ICT news-3- Apple licenses sent to CC’s by Robert Pucillo on 21/8/06 ATTENTION: COMPUTER CO-ORDINATORS DET Software Sales will be looking into reallocating surplus Mac OS X 10.4 licenses for schools that have not yet taken up the offer. If you wish to take up the offer and have not yet done so for computers that do qualify, then do so soon as possible as not to miss out. The reallocated licenses can then be used to cover computers (clients and server) that were not previously entitled to an upgrade to Mac OS X This can include the following, 1. Computers purchased prior to 2002 (please see the minimum requirements below) 2. Computers donated/purchased by the PC 3. Computers purchased by the school 4. Computers won as a prize

Sydney Region Sydney Region ICT news-4- Minimum System Requirements (Macintosh Systems – OS-X) Sydney Region IT has determined the following as the minimum requirements to run Mac OS X 10.4 * G3/400Mhz Power PC * Minimum 320Mb of RAM (Recommended 512Mb RAM) * 20Gig HD Please note that tray loading iMacs and beige Power Macs are not able to run OS-X 10.4 and are no longer supported. Some computers may require a RAM and/or hard drive upgrade to run the new OS. If you need help identifying what computers would qualify and may need an upgrade please log a helpdesk call and I can help with an audit of your equipment. If you have computers that you would like to upgrade and that meet the minimum system requirements then please send me an with the number of licenses required. Sydney Region Content Pre-positioning Cache devices The necessary infrastructure is being put in place by ITD and Sydney Region. Sydney Region ITSU will be delivering and installing the devices once ITD has commissioned the infrastructure in support of the program. Sydney Region Information on ICT standards and directions “The NSW Department of Education and Training is committed to the use of ICT to support and enhance teaching and learning. The Information Technology Directorate and the Centre for Learning Innovation collaborate on the identification, evaluation, recommendation and potential standardisation of technologies that may represent a teaching and learning value proposition. Sydney Region NSW Computer Coordinators Forum For many years, there has been the NSW Computer Coordinators (NSWCC) Listserv, a mailing list comprising School Computer Coordinators and others, operating a s a self-help group. The problem is, this listserv can at times generate more than 40 s per day and many CCs find that daunting and impractical. For this reason the NSWCC Forum has been created. A neat, catalogued place to communicate with other CCs and to find answers to known issues. The forum has only just started up and is growing daily, along with its content. Accessing the site requires on-line registration, but once signed in, there is no overload associated. Feel free to join in.

Sydney Region Recall of Apple notebook batteries Helen Colquhoun NSW Education Manager t : f : m: People will need to check the battery serial number and the battery model number. The exchange is being done via resellers in Australia, so if people can check, then send me a list with: 1. computer serial no, 2. battery model no. and battery serial no. We will organise the replacement batteries, get them out to schools and get the old ones back at that point. No need to send them in in advance. It will probably take several weeks for the batteries to get out, as Apple are saying there is a week delay. Sydney Region Recall of Dell notebook batteries Dell has identified a potential issue associated with certain batteries sold with Dell Latitude™, Inspiron™, XPS™ and Dell Precision Mobile Workstation™ notebook computers. Dell is voluntarily recalling certain Dell-branded batteries with cells manufactured by Sony and offering free replacements for these batteries.
