Objective: You will be able to use place value to read, write, compare, and order whole numbers through 999,999,999 in standard, expanded, and written from.

Expanded form: A way to write numbers that shows the place value of each digit. Written from: A way to write numbers that shows the place value of each digit.

Comparing Numbers 563 521 different 60 is greater than 20. 1. Line up the place values by lining up the ones. 2. Begin with the greatest place. Find the first place where the digits are different. 3. Compare the value of the digits in that place. 563 521 different same 60 is greater than 20. So 563 > 521 BEWARE when comparing numbers that don’t have the same amount of digits. Make sure to line the numbers up by the ONES PLACE.

When one whole number has more digits than another, Comparing Numbers 1. Line up the place values by lining up the ones. 2. Begin with the greatest place. Find the first place where the digits are different. 3. Compare the value of the digits in that place. 11,352,578 4,367,755 11,000,000 is greater than 4,000,000. When one whole number has more digits than another, it is greater. So in our example 11,352,578 > 4,367,755

Example: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th etc. first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, etc.
