Pompeii modern and ancient day By: Sophie Osburg

Why are people interested in Pompeii?  There are many reasons people might still live in Pompeii or be interested in it.  Maybe they are studying the ancient history of he people and there culture.  Maybe they aren't even aware of the volcano (which is unlikely) and the city.  It could be they are keeping traditions  There ancestors could’ve lived there before.  Maybe they think it is safe to live there.  They might not be able to afford a very high quality place of living.

Pompeii (modern day) PPeople live there like nothing ever happened. MMost people live about 8 miles away from the volcano (not very far if an eruption happened again). TThe last eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, the volcano was in TThink about this: do you think you would take the risk of being an addition to the city “buried” in time. AAfter the first eruption Mt. Vesuvius has erupted more than 50 times.

Ancient life  A short time before sunset the people had dinner.  They ate things such as olives and eggs, and if they could afford it, thing such as fish, meat, and cake.  They didn’t have much entertainment.  The streets there weren’t safe so they went to bed early.

The story of Mount Vesuvius  In Pompeii, Italy Pompeii is referred to as the lost city, do you know why?  Around A.D. 79 Mt. Vesuvius erupted.  The people, unaware, all died.  It killed hundreds and buried the city.  It wasn’t the lava that killed them, yet all of the layers of smoke and ash erupting with it.  Today we are still studying the “lost city” and have only discover little about it.

Life Today (in Pompeii)  People there don’t have BIG fancy homes. They live in small houses and usually share homes with other people.  They sometimes gather for a big group meal. Kind of like an average dinner with bread and other dishes.  There way of entertainment is music. They can’t just plop down on a couch and start watching T.V.

Point’s of view  I am doing both point’s of view, me as a reporter at Pompeii and the people living in Pompeii. I will be shown as I and the other people will be P.  I: What is it like living in Pompeii, is it scary going to bed thinking the volcano could erupt?  P: No, We usually just go to bed. I have never really thought about the volcano. I play some music then go to sleep.  I: Is playing music your main source of entertainment?  P: Yes.  I: do you play music in a group of people.  P: Well, sometimes. At dinners we usually just have one person play.  I: Well, thank you for your time.

Victims This is a picture of some of the victims of Mt. Vesuvius.
