In this lesson you will learn:In this lesson you will learn:  Colour can be used to express feelings and ideas symbollically  Colours can have different meanings in different cultures  Symbolic use of colour can change over time  We make references using colour in daily language

 Colours can be explained using physics as wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum.  They can be explained using biology as the operation of the human eye and the relationship between the eye and the brain.  Colour also affects people psychologically…

In language…In language…  Colour, in language, can communicate ideas. Examples:  I’m feeling blue (really mean sad/depressed)  I’m seeing red (I’m angry)  We recycle in blue boxes.  Green represents being environmentally friendly

Symbolically…  Red: emergency signs/vehicles  Yellow: warning signs  Black: mourning/funerals  White: peace, weddings

Culture…  Each colour means something different in each culture.  What does the colour red mean to you? What does the colour red mean in the China?  In each culture, there is a relationship between colours and ideas, feelings and emotions.
