1 Lesson 2: Colour of Objects

2 Prisms Refraction is when light bends through an object.
White light is made up of all the colors of the spectrum. Different colors have different wavelengths, therefore they bend at different angles. So when white light passes through a prism the different colors bend at different angles, so they separate to produce the rainbow of light that we see.

3 COLOURS!!!!!

4 Water vapor in the atmosphere can also break apart wavelengths creating a rainbow.
The Sun is a natural source for visible light waves and our eyes see the reflection of this sunlight off the objects around us. The color of an object that we see is the color of light reflected. All other colors are absorbed.

5 Colour By Subtraction White light is a mixture of red, green, and blue light. The subtractive colour theory is the idea that the apparent colour of a non-luminous object depends on which colours of light it absorbs and which it reflects.

6 To see red, it is the red light that is reflected
To see red, it is the red light that is reflected. Blue and green are absorbed. To see green, it is the green light that is reflected. Red and Blue are absorbed. To see blue, it is the blue light that is reflected. Red and green are absorbed.

7 To see white, all of the colours are reflected.
To see black, all of the colours are absorbed.

8 Questions What colour will an object appear if it is absorbing green light and reflecting blue and red? pink 2. What colour will an object appear if it is absorbing blue light and reflecting green and red? yellow 3. What colour will an object appear if it is absorbing blue and red light? green
