The Declaration of Independence

Common Sense Many people were still on the fence in regards to independence. They weren’t sure if they should break ties with or stay loyal to England. A patriot named Thomas Paine wrote a book called Common Sense that changed many colonists opinions. The book highlighted two important facts: First, having a king or queen was wrong and second, we didn’t owe England anything. Having a king is a real pain! To me, that’s common sense! Get it, Paine and Common Sense. I am so funny!

The colonists were getting ready to declare their independence. What does declaring independence mean? Have you ever declared Independence? That kid looks ridiculous ! Hey old man, I am who I am! I am an independent spirit

Congress Votes For Independence Congress was very moved by Common Sense. This was no easy decision, though. There would be no turning back. If the signers were caught, they would be hanged as traitors. The decision was finally made that Independence was important enough to risk their lives. Thomas Jefferson was chosen to actually write the document because he wrote so clearly and gracefully.

The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, This marks our Independence Day. John Hancock is famous for being the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence.

Three Separate Parts The first piece of the Declaration of independence describes our natural rights, or rights that belong to all people by birth. The second part gives a list of wrongs that the British committed. The third part announces that the 13 Colonies are now the United States of America.
