Presentation transcript:

 Categorical Data: Data relating to groups of the population that do not have to do with measurement  Examples: Hair color, Gender, Favorite Food  Can be numbers that have no value such as zip codes, social security numbers, etc  Quantitative Data: Data relating to measurement.  Always has units  Examples: miles, yrs, hours, etc

 Don’t forget to label the x axis and the y axis  Make sure your y axis goes up by consistent scale # of ______ depends upon who the data is about Different categories Don’t forget a title

Favorite Type of Music # of student s Rock42 R & B60 Country15 RockR&BCountry # of students Student’s favorite Type of Music

RockR&BCountry # of students Student’s favorite Type of Music What type of music is liked best? (highest bar) R & B Total People in survey? (add up from bars or table) =117 What % of people like country =.1282 = 12.8%

PumaNikeVans # of students Student’s favorite type of shoes Which percentage of people like Vans, show your work

 For problems that you missed you must make corrections and describe what you misunderstood  If you got 100% then it is your task to help people around you fix their misconceptions  If you didn’t take the quiz, work on getting the assignment done

 Important things to remember!!!!  Pie charts always must add up to 100%. If they are over or under they are wrong  You must have a key or label each piece of the pie with both the percent and which category the section represents  The sections must be the right size. Example 5% should not be the largest section on your pie chart if you have sections that equal higher percentages!

Type of Music# of students Rock42 (42/117).3589 = 35.9% R and B60 (60/117).5128 = 51.3% Country15 (15/117).1282 = 12.8% Total % 1: find your total number of people in the table 2: Find the Percentage for each category 3: Make your pie chart 4: Make a key or label sections 5: Don’t forget a Title!!! Favorite Music Rock 35.8% R and B 51.3% Country 12.8%

 Red: Copy table onto mini poster and find the total number of people  Blue: Find the percent of people in each category and show how you did this on the poster  Green: Make a pie chart for the data and put on poster  Person #3: Check to make sure the pie chart has a title, the sections are labeled and that that percents round up to 100% Favorite Soda# of people Mountain Dew56 Cherry Coke25 Sprite15 Orange12 Rootbeer12 Pepsi10 +5 extra credit if your pie chart is appealing to look at and has a picture on it that relates to the data

1.Find Marginal Distribution based on category stated 2. Make your scale for the bar graph. Make sure the y scale is % all the way up to 100%. DON’T FORGET A TITLE 3. Plot each category. Use different colors or patterns to represent the different groups

Make sure you write pick 1  Write the other question on the left, make sure you write pick 1

 On your whiteboard make a segmented bar graph for the following table  Explain whether this bar graph displays independence  Find marginal distribution based on coat color CatDogTotal Brown Black Total Pet Coat color
