2 Beginning  Please get out one piece of paper.  Put your name, date, and period in the upper right hand corner.  The first question I want you to answer is:  If you had 100 jelly beans and 10 of them were red. What percentage of your jelly beans are red.  MAKE SURE TO SHOW ME YOUR MATH. IN OTHER WORDS SHOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID TO FIND THE ANSWER.

7 Practice 1 – The next slide has some questions. Answer them on the sheet that you have in front of you using the formula we gave you and what you know about percentages Hint: You have a calculator on your machines. You can use the regular calculator or you could type the correct formula into Excel.

8 Practice 1 –  You have 4252 jelly beans.  1600 are red  1400 are blue  450 are purple  212 are green  500 are orange  90 are yellow

9 Putting it all Together  On the next slide you will see a graph that I hope will help you understand how this really works.  The pie represents the whole, or all of your jelly beans.  The chart will show you the math used and the matching percentage for each color of jelly bean.

11 Apply your Knowledge  You have 57 pairs of shoes. Of those only 20 are in excellent condition. What percentage of your shoes are in excellent condition?  You make 50,000 a year. You spend 47,000 a year. What percentage of your income do you spend every year?  You have 3,000 photographs of your cat. You only like 150 of them. What percentage of your cat pictures do you NOT like?

12 Apply your Knowledge  At this point you have all of the math related skills required to complete the personal budget assignment.  Remember to use formulas to calculate all of the percentages and totals.  Also remember to use cell references in your formulas
