William Wallace to some was a hero but to others he was a rebel. Wallace came from a wealthy family of knights. He was born around 1274 and is death date was 1305 in When Wallace heard that the English had invaded he returned home to find his wife dead he went on a huge rampage killing anyone that got in his way. Wallace lead his army in to battle against the English sheriff of Lanark. Wallace captured him and skinned him to make a scabbard for his sword. William Wallace fought the English at two battles. The first was the battle of Stirling bridge. The second was the battle of Falkirk.

William Wallace was a great beacon of hope for the Scottish people. It is not true that William Wallace painted his face blue as it shows in the film Braveheart. William Wallace didn’t have any children. William Wallace was dragged to England in a cow skin tied to the back of a horse and then killed. I will talk a bit about his death in a minute.

Hung Drawn And Quartered

Robert was born in France in 1274 and died in 1329 but he was recruited in to the English army. After Wallace’s death Robert sneakily ran away to Scotland to lead the resistance. Robert’s first battle with the English was at Methven but he was defeated by the great numbers of the English army. Robert retreated and hid in a cave. He was tempted to give in but he saw a little spider spinning a web over the mouth of the cave. Each time the spider failed until it finally succeeded and that gave Robert the Bruce a streak of hope.

Bruce wanted to be king but had found out that Comyn still had the throne. When they met in a church in Dumfries Comyn denied that he had the throne but Robert knew otherwise. He lost his temper and stabbed Comyn in the church even though it was a great sin. He came out of the church saying I doot I doot [no doubt] After Robert left the church he was told that Comyn was not dead he sent his friend Kirkpatrick to go and finish him off. Bruce became King of Scotland but was not formally recognised as the King until the much later after the Declaration of Arbroath was signed and Scottish Independence was declared. Robert died in his room of a disease but before he died he asked that his heart was taken to the holy land. After his death his heart only made it half way to the holy land so they took it back and berried it.
