2 The history of Scotland
Some of you may know about the recent Independence Referendum in 2014, but this wasn’t the first time Scotland fought to be independent.

3 The Wars Although there were only two wars, they lasted 61 years and included 32 battles. The Treaty of Berwick brought the wars to an end in 1357.

5 Stirling Castle As you know, we recently visited Stirling Castle. During the wars the castle was under siege (under control) and there was a famous battle in 1304 called the Fall of Stirling Castle.

6 Robert the Bruce Robert the Bruce was defeated six times by the English but he never gave up thanks to a spider who failed to spin his web six times but succeeded on the 7th. Robert was hiding in a cave following a defeat and watched the spider try to spin the web. This gave Robert an idea that he could win a battle if he tried again, so with fresh courage he went into battle one more time and he defeated King Edward in one of the most famous battles of them all – the Battle of Bannockburn.

My name is Robert the Bruce. I was born Did you know I have connections to Paisley? My darling daughter Marjory died when she fell off her horse so I built a mound on Renfrew Road in memory of her death.
