Lack of green screen and shows low budget quality of the video. flashlight lighting and action figures as representatives.

Intertextual reference of the “spice girls” and the osbournes attending the sum 41 convert. A key theme of the video is irreverence as they mock numerous celebrities.

The zoom in is a constant camera technique used in the video which is a common style of camerawork in a lot of amateur videos. which is a common style of camerawork in a lot of amateur videos.

The live performance element of the video is the main focus and is also featured in all of their other videos. Close ups are used to show expression when the band are “backstage”

Adam : Sum 41 - The Hell song The Hell song is a single from the bands 2003 album "does this look infected?" The video begins with dialogue between two action figures which are being moved by hands in shot, with the camera shots being handheld ones too. this sets the tone for the rest of the video, as it looks to be deliberately low budget for a band which had had previous success with the album "all killer no filler". the deliberate low budget connotes the anti commercialism views that this genre of music has. The handheld shots and zooms and obvious hands moving the action figures show that they wanted it to be simple with a clear lack of green screen and lack of quality editing. Throughout the video there are various references to other popular figures like the Osbornes, Korn and snoop dogg. All of whom were parodied and made to look foolish. as the video is erratic and doesn't really have much relevance to the song and so is a contradiction style video. The video is a recreation of a live performance using action figures to represent each band member and members of the audience. the start of the music is matched by a zoom out to mid shot of the four members of the band performing. this reveals that a photograph of each of their faces is simply stuck on to each figure, this shows of the simplicity of the mise en scene. the room of the "performance" is dark and a flashlight is used to act as a spotlight on the band and the jerky hand movements of both the torch and the camera show the amatuer-esque style of video. The rest of the video is either shot in natural light or just the same as the start with the amateur flashlight effect. close ups and two shots are used when the band are backstage to show the reactions of the band members reacting to different situations.
