Wow, Matisse is an amazing artist! Matisse created some of his most popular pieces of art when he was older. Jazz Icarus 1945

Henri had several operations that left him in a wheelchair. During these years, he was too weak to stand at an easel. Henri didn't allow his handicap to get him down. He began creating his papercuts, carving in colored paper, scissoring out shapes, and collaging them into sometimes vast pictures. The picture to the left entitled "Beasts of the Sea" was created in 1950.
