Research  You must asses the current health trends, so you know how to approach your community.  Many different populations may exist in your community, each with its own individual needs.  Types of research:  Statistics  Surveys

 Create, organize, and develop effective health based programs.  These health events and research are based on past research and address current issues of the population.  These fairs may take place at schools, hospitals, ect. and events are meant to educate and raise awareness.

 Public health educators rely on grants from the government to design and run the health fairs, events, and outreach programs.  Some health educators are paid solely on the money from the grants.  Grants can run out!!!!!  This can create a stress on the health educator.

 Public speaking skills are very important because you constantly are doing presentations to groups of people.  Various populations may exist within your community, so speaking more then one language is helpful.  Writing skills are helpful when creating newsletters and writing grants for future projects.

 Certifications and courses:  Grant writing course  Chronic Illness certification  CHES  Tobacco Counseling Certification
