Constraints Harvest the energy from the momentum of the moving bicycle. The unit price should be affordable; the primary target is for developing countries. The design shall be ergonomic The product should be weather/water resistant. It is preferable to manufacture and assemble components in-house from raw materials where feasible. Project success will be based on how fast the technology could be reproduced or re- manufactured by individuals with low levels of training or exposure. Budget Estimate: Major cost items anticipated. Product Benchmarking$150 Prototype construction$350 Testing$100 TOTAL$600

Customer Needs Objective: Power simple personal devices using energy stored in the momentum of a bicycle Importance Weight Need #Customer Needs low = 1, moderate = 3, high = 9 Need 1The device provides power to charge a cell phone or a rechargeable battery to power LED lighting 10 Need 2The device attaches to a wide variety of bicycle types 6 Need 3The device adds only a minimal increase in effort for the operator pedaling the bicycle, ideally none at all 4 Need 4The device uses standard connectors to personal electronic devices 8 Need 5The device is light weight 4 Need 6The device is inexpensive to purchase, install and maintain 7 Need 7The device is easy to install 5 Need 8The device is easy to operate 6 Need 9The device is easy to maintain 6 Need 10The device resists environmental damage from dust, water, etc. 8 ( Need 11The device works well on rough roads 8 Need 12The device protects user safety 8 Need 13The device is a stylish accessory to the bicycle3
