Lesson 2 What Is A Living Faith? Living By Faith Lesson 2 What Is A Living Faith?

Faith Is Essential To Pleasing God Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

4 Misconceptions About Faith Faith is given to unbelievers by a miraculous working of the Holy Spirit Faith allows us to do all the apostles did including miracles Faith is mental agreement that Jesus is the Son of God without defined action Faith is a positive attitude toward self that we can do all things if we desire and believe in them hard enough

Jesus’ 9 Apostles Fail To Cast Out A Demon Luk 9:28 Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. Luk 9:37 On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him. Mar 9:14 When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.

Jesus’ 9 Apostles Fail To Cast Out A Demon Mar 9:15 Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him. Mar 9:16 And He asked them, "What are you discussing with them?" Mar 9:17 And one of the crowd answered Him, "Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;

Jesus’ 9 Apostles Fail To Cast Out A Demon Mar 9:18 and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it." Mar 9:19 And He *answered them and *said, "O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!"

Jesus Casts Out The Demon From The Boy Mar 9:20 They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth. Mar 9:21 And He asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood.

Jesus Casts Out The Demon From The Boy Mar 9:22 "It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" Mar 9:23 And Jesus said to him, " 'If You can?' All things are possible to him who believes."

Jesus Casts Out The Demon From The Boy Mar 9:24 Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe; help my unbelief." Mar 9:25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again."

Jesus Casts Out The Demon From The Boy Mar 9:26 After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, "He is dead!" Mar 9:27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.

Jesus’ Apostles Failed To Do What They Had Done By Jesus’ Authority Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; Mat 10:6 but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Jesus’ Apostles Failed To Do What They Had Done By Jesus’ Authority Mat 10:7 "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Mat 10:8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.

Jesus’ Apostles Failed To Do What They Had Done By Jesus’ Authority Luk 10:17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." Luk 10:18 And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

Jesus’ Apostles Failed To Do What They Had Done By Jesus’ Authority Luk 10:19 "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Luk 10:20 "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."

They Failed Because Their Little Faith Did Not Believe In God’s Powerful Word Mar 9:28 When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, "Why could we not drive it out?" Mar 9:29 And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer."

They Failed Because Their Little Faith Did Not Believe In God’s Powerful Word Mat 17:19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not drive it out?" Mat 17:20 And He *said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Small Mustard Seed Is Powerful For Its Size Mat 13:31 He presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; Mat 13:32 and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that THE BIRDS OF THE AIR come and NEST IN ITS BRANCHES."

Our Faith Comes From Obeying God’s Powerful Word Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.

Our Faith Comes From Obeying God’s Powerful Word Heb 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were drowned.

Do We have A Living Faith Today? Unlike Jesus’ apostles, we are not commanded to perform miracles today Having a living faith means we trust in and obey God’s powerful Word which will accomplish the things He says it will do toward us and in us

Do We have A Living Faith Today? By His Word, we can be forgiven of sins, understand His Word, grow in grace and knowledge, teach others, receive answers to our prayers Can’t we have the faith in God to do whatever He says whether it be great or small?

If He Can Perform Miracles He Can Save Us By A Living Faith Mar 2:1 When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home. Mar 2:2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them. Mar 2:3 And they *came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.

If He Can Perform Miracles He Can Save Us By A Living Faith Mar 2:4 Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. Mar 2:5 And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven." Mar 2:6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,

If He Can Perform Miracles He Can Save Us By A Living Faith Mar 2:7 "Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?" Mar 2:8 Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, "Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?

If He Can Perform Miracles He Can Save Us By A Living Faith Mar 2:9 "Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven'; or to say, 'Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk'? Mar 2:10 "But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--He *said to the paralytic,

If He Can Perform Miracles He Can Save Us By A Living Faith Mar 2:11 "I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home." Mar 2:12 And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."

If God Can Raise Him From The Dead He Can Forgive Me of My Sins Act 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ--this Jesus whom you crucified." Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"

If God Can Raise Him From The Dead He Can Forgive Me of My Sins Act 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

If God Can Raise Him From The Dead He Can Transform My Thinking Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
