www.budakylecofc.org Slide 1 To which town did Jesus return? (Mark 1:38-39 NKJV) But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, … And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee …. (Mark 2:1-2 NKJV) And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. Healed a paralytic (2:1-12) E-09 An encounter providing Divine forgiveness.

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 2 By what unusual method was a man brought to Jesus? (Mark 2:3 NKJV) Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. (Mark 2:4 NKJV) And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. What was the apparent reason for bringing this man to Jesus? Healed a paralytic (Cont’d) E-09

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 3 What did Jesus first do for this man? (Mark 2:5 NKJV) When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” What did this action imply about Jesus? (Mark 2:6 NKJV) And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, (Mark 2:7 NKJV) “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Healed a paralytic (Cont’d) E-09

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 4 What did Jesus next do for this man? (Mark 2:9 NKJV) “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? (Mark 2:10 NKJV) “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”; He said to the paralytic, (Mark 2:11 NKJV) “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” Why did Jesus heal him? Healed a paralytic (Cont’d) E-09

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 5 What was the reaction of the people? (Mark 2:12 NKJV) Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” Why would this have been especially remarkable to the people (after seeing so many other miracles)? Healed a paralytic (Cont’d) E-09

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 6 What was required of this man in order to obtain forgiveness? (Mark 2:5 NKJV) When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Why is this not an example of forgiveness that we can follow today? (Heb. 9:15-17, Luke 24:47 with Acts 2:38) Healed a paralytic (Cont’d) E-09

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 7 Healed a paralytic (Cont’d) E-09 From this encounter we see: Jesus had power on earth to forgive sins. Only God can forgive sin (offenses against God). Jesus’ forgiving this man without requiring anything of him is not a valid precedent for our salvation today because it occurred under a different law of God.
