“This we know: the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth… All the things are connected like the blood which unites one family… whatever befalls the earth, befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web he does to himself.” –Chief Seattle

Each human being has a right It is something that others have a duty to allow us to have A livable environment is essential to the fulfillment of our human capacities

A person has a moral right to a thing when possession of that thing is essential in permitting him to live a human life

Provide plausible rationale for limiting property rights in these absolute ways for the sake of human right to a clean environment Humans have a moral duty to treat each other as ends and not as means, they have a correlative duty to respect and promote the development of another's capacity to freely and rationally choose for him/ herself Add it to the constitution – Pennsylvania – Stockholm Declaration

Water Pollution Control Act 1972 Clean Water Act 1977 The Quality Act of 1987

The CWA made it unlawful to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters, unless a permit was obtained

requires industry to meet best available technology standards for specified toxic pollutants by July 1, 1984 requires compliance with best available technology standards for newly listed toxics within three years

requires states to identify waters that do not meet water quality standards due to the discharge of toxic substances, to adopt numerical criteria for the pollutants in such waters, and to establish effluent limitations for individual discharges to such water bodies

Possible impact that pollution abatement requirements may have on plants and closing jobs Fails to provide any nuanced guidance on several pressing environmental issues

Discuss with people around you.

EPA and the water acts trying to help the environment and make it safer for everyone. With all the chemicals getting released in the air, we are trying to get rid of the toxics that are harmful to us and the environment.
