The Facts, Please!  There are more than two thousand different kinds of frogs in the world today. Since they are amphibians, they are able to live on land and in the water. Some frogs, though, never come on land but spend their whole lives in the water. Others always live on land and never in the water. Some frogs live in trees.

More Facts, Please!  Frogs are cold-blooded animals, and many of them hibernate in the winter. In the spring, they leave their holes and go to some water, where the female lays eggs and the male fertilizes them. The eggs are covered with a kind of jellied substance to protect them. Then, after 4 to 15 day, they hatch into tadpoles. In a few months (or as much as two years for a bullfrog), the tadpole's tail has been absorbed, and it has grown legs and lungs. It has become a frog.

More Facts, Please!  In Egypt there are frogs that live in water and on land. In July, when the Nile River overflows and then recede, it leaves many stagnant pools of water. In August and September, the frogs breed in the pools. In the days of the Pharaohs, hordes of frogs coming out of these pools were common. But the plague of frogs that God sent upon them was different and much worse.

More Facts, Please!  The Egyptians considered frogs sacred, and they worshipped a female god that had a frog’s head. It was very upsetting and humiliating to then when frogs invaded their land and caused them a very revolting problem.
