Surviving Social Studies…  Textbook: stays at home all year. We have an extra set to use here in the classroom.  3 Subject notebook: all homework and notes should be completed in the notebook.  Organized binder  Textbook Website: games, audio, quizzes  Always come to class with assignment notebook!

Homework  Students can expect to have Social Studies homework nightly.  Homework may include: Reading from the textbook, taking notes, answering practice questions, making flashcards, working on a project, etc.  Completed homework is necessary for your child to get the most out of the Social Studies lesson/ activity for the day.  If homework is incomplete I will circle the assignment in the agenda.  Missing homework multiple times will result in a recess detention.

Projects  3 major country projects this year: Current Events, Culture, and Flora/ Fauna  Students are assigned the same country all year  Rubrics are given and students receive an overall project grade, as well as a presentation grade  Projects are typically done on powerpoint, poster board, or Prezi.  Students sign up for presentation dates and will know far in advance.  We will also do multiple projects in class, some which may require at home work.

Units of Study  5 Themes of Geography, reviewing maps, latitude/ longitude, etc.  Europe- broken down into smaller regions  Russia  Africa  Religions  Asia- broken down into smaller regions  For each region we study, we focus on: Physical and political maps, government, economy, lifestyle, and culture.
