What natural resources does Russia have? In pairs, use a whiteboard to come up with as many ideas about the different types of natural resources Russia has!

Russia and its Natural Resources What did you come up with? Russia is the largest country in the world; it covers a vast amount of varied territory, and Russia is one of the world's richest countries in raw materials. Russia accounts for around 20 percent of the world's production of oil and natural gas and possesses large reserves of both fuels. Russia possesses rich reserves of iron ore, manganese, chromium, nickel, platinum, titanium, copper, tin, lead, tungsten, diamonds, phosphates, and gold, and the forests of Siberia contain an estimated one-fifth of the world's timber, mainly conifers.

Learning Objectives ALL: must identify the environmental problems Russia faces MOST: should describe and explain the environmental problems Russia has SOME: could compose a letter assessing environmental damage and recommending ways to reduce environmental damage

Your Task Around the room are information stations. Your task is to move (When instructed) to each station – collect as much information as you can. You will need this information for the next activity.

Your Task Describe and explain how environmental problems are being caused by Russia and how the country is damaging the environment. Extension: Come up with some ways in which Russia could protect its environment.

To Finish off! Write a letter or Tweet to the Russian Government explaining and informing them of how they are damaging their environment and suggest possible ways to reduce the damage.
