The Samaritan Revival Acts 8:4-24

“Who is my neighbor?” 36 Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" 37 And he said, "The one who showed mercy toward him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same." NASU

Acts 8:12 (ESV) 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Ephesians 2:12-16 - 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, NASU

Acts 8:8 – “so there was great joy in that city.” Acts 8:9-11 - 9 A man named Simon had been a sorcerer there for many years, amazing the people of Samaria and claiming to be someone great. 10 Everyone, from the least to the greatest, often spoke of him as "the Great One—the Power of God." 11 They listened closely to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his magic. Holy Bible, New Living Translation

“The Great One – The Power Of God.”

2 Thessalonians 2:8-10 (ESV) 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

2 Timothy 3:8 (ESV) 8  Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith.

Acts 8:12-13 - 12 But now the people believed Philip's message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized. 13 Then Simon himself believed and was baptized. He began following Philip wherever he went, and he was amazed by the signs and great miracles Philip performed. Holy Bible, New Living Translation

Acts 19:17 – 20 - 17 The story of what happened spread quickly all through Ephesus, to Jews and Greeks alike. A solemn fear descended on the city, and the name of the Lord Jesus was greatly honored. 18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19 A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars. 20 So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect. Holy Bible, New Living Translation

Luke 8:15 – “but the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart who hear the word, retain it and by persevering produce a crop.”

Luke 8:14 – “the seed that fell among the thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way. They are choked by lives worries, riches, and pleasures and they do not mature.” Luke 8: 14 - 14 The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. NASU

Acts 8:18 – 19 – “when Simon saw that the Spirit was given when the apostles laid their hands on people, he offered them money to buy this power. Let me have this power, too, he exclaimed, so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit.”

“How much will it cost me “How much will it cost me? How much money will it take for you to give me this power of yours? I mean, come on. Everyone’s got a price. Right? I’m loaded! I’ll pay whatever you want.”

Acts 8:20-23 - 20 But Peter replied, "May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God's gift can be bought! 21 You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God. 22 Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts, 23 for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin." Holy Bible, New Living Translation

Matthew 23:28 – “outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

VS 20 – “Your heart is not right.” VS 23 – “You are full of bitterness and captive to sin.” Vs 21 – “you have no part or share in this ministry.” Vs 22 - Peter told Simon “Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord.”
