1. Repentance is to change your mind as well as to turn from sin

Repentance Includes To Change Your Mind About: Who You Are What You Are What You Deserve

2. Repentance is necessary for salvation

2 Corinthians 7:9-11: Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very 2 Corinthians 7:9-11: Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very

thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Luke 13:3: I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

Mathew 3:1-2: In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

Matthew 4:17: From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

James 2:19: You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

Romans 10:9: that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

In Acts 3:19 Peter Declares: Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

Acts 20:21: testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

In Acts 17:30 Peter Declared: Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

In Acts 2:38 Peter Declared: Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 6:12: So they went out and preached that people should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.

Jesus in Declaring The Great Commission in Luke 24:47 Said: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Proverbs 28:13: He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

3. Believing in Jesus Christ or God is not enough to be saved

Luke 8:13: But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away

Acts 8:13: Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.

Acts 8:18-23: And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”

4. Repentance is not becoming sinless or perfect and thus repentance is not works unto salvation.

Titus 3:5: not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Acts 26:20: but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.

James 2:18: But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Matthew 3:8: Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,

Luke 6:46-49: But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.

And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

5. Salvation is work of the Holy Spirit and not a work of man. God is the one that grants people the ability to repent. Repentance is not something we can do on our own and thus it cannot be defined as works.

2 Timothy 2:25: in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,

Acts 11:18: When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”

Acts 5:30-31: The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

6. Faith and repentance are two sides of the same coin and repentance is no more of a work than faith is a work.

Romans 10:9: that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Acts 20:21: testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
