Hatred towards God, Jesus Christ and the believer is also described in scripture in terms of “Enemyship.” Part 2

8. Satan has various functions as the ruler of fallen angels.

a.Satan is the enemy of unbelievers, Luke 8:12; 2 Cor 4:3 ‑ 4; 2 Thes 2:7 ‑ 10; Col 2:8.

b. Satan is the enemy of the Church Age believer, 2 Cor 2:11; 11:3; Eph 6:10 ‑ 17; James 4:6 ‑ 10; 1 Peter 5:6 ‑ 9.

c. Satan is the enemy of the Church, Rev 2:9, 13, 24.

d. Satan is the enemy of Bible doctrine, Mat 13:9, 39.

e. Satan is the enemy of Israel, Rev 12:4, 13, 15.

f. Satan is the enemy of the incarnation of the Hypostatic Union, Rev 12:4.

g. Satan is the enemy of nations, Rev 12:9, 20:3, 8.

h. Satan is the chief antagonist of the extension of the Angelic Conflict into human history, Heb 1 ‑ 2.

9. Categories of Enemyship related to the spiritual life.

a. Satan and the fallen angels are the enemy of the believer, 1 Tim 5:14; 1 Peter 5:8.

b. The reversionist, though used by Satan, is the enemy of both Satan and the advancing believer.

c. Demons are said to be the enemy of God, 1 Cor 15:25; Heb 10:13.

d. Unbelievers are the enemies of God, Rom 5:10; Col 1:21.

Rom 5:10, “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

All unbelievers are in a state of alienation, hostile in thinking, and evil in deeds.

e. Both categories of enemies of God will be judged by the Lake of Fire, John 3:18; Mat 25:41; Heb 10:27.

f. The carnal believer becomes a temporary enemy of God by being out of fellowship, Rom 8:7 ‑ 8.

Rom 8:7-8, “Because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

g. God is the enemy of the reversionistic believer, especially when he is under the sin unto death, 1 Sam 28:16.

h. The reversionistic believer is the enemy of God, James 4:4-5.

James 4:4-5, “You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”?”

i. The reversionist is called “the enemy of the cross”, Phil 3:18.
